Painting base colours

Posted by Bendy_Straw on 17 Mar 2021, 12:13

Hello guys. i have had this problem for quite a while now and I figured you could give me some insight. So we know you have to water down your paints so you don't get a clumsy figure. But by watering them down, I get a rather thin and washy result, and so I have to put a second hand. Is that normal or is it a problem with my primer maybe? Because I didn't get a primer for this particular work, I just have a general use primer. Here are some pics to demonstrate it better:

My advice(s):

Always use the primer. Choose color of primer according to color you plan to paint as basecoat.
If you're not sure use gray primer.

Don't thin down to much your base color paints comparing to paints you plan to use as layers, glazes etc.

And yes, very often you should paint 2 or 3 layers of one color. Especially when painting yellow and white. Sometimes even when painting black and you've used white (light) primer.

Thank you, this clarifies it. I will use some other primer when I get the chance to see the difference.
